Luxury Reset

After listening to an episode of the Business of Fashion podcast, more precisely, “The Great Fashion Reset: Can Designer Debuts Revive Luxury?”, I decided to put out my input on the topic.

Fashion Month is here, a lot of brands have new creative directors and we are eager to see how the future of luxury will be. Because I do believe that, as stated in the podcast, there is a need to get people excited about fashion again.

A lot of the brands have had “one really hot day” and I understand that part of the reason is trends change and flow super easily. The essence of luxury got lost. Suddenly, what matters the most is being the trendiest. Corporates are indeed worried about the markets depressive state and try to fight this with a constant change of creative directors.

Gucci is a great example, we went from Alessandro Michele and his Kitsch inspiration to Sabato di Sarna that tuned down the brand in comparison with their previous collections. And now we are waiting for Demna, that had a particular take on Balenciaga, moving away from it’s heritage and showing streetwear sells too.

However, designers are not VIP anymore they are trendy. So, can really designers revive luxury or are they just stirring the market?
